Settled in 1703 by the Spanish, evidence of pottery and human skeletons unearthed in Indian mounds indicates Palm Valley was once an Indian village. Originally Palm Valley was known as Diego Plains, in honor of its founder Don Diego Espinosa. Early residents raised cattle, farmed, and logged the areas numerous trees. This abundance of Sable Palms led to renaming the region, Palm Valley. Another significant change happened in 1908 when the Army Corps of Engineers extended the Intracoastal Waterway. By connecting the San Pablo River with the Tolomato River via a canal, access to Palm Valley was greatly improved. This extension through the middle of Palm Valley not only helped early residents ship their wares, it increased the amount of waterfront properties Palm Valley is known for today.

Typifying the Florida lifestyle enjoyed year round, residents of all the Palm Valley communities enjoy quick access to the public beach at Mickler’s Landing where one can enjoy horseback riding (during the months of Nov. 1st thru April 14th), walk the dog, play in the sand, surf, or search for sharks teeth. Easy 24/7 access to the Palm Valley Boat Ramp or the Guana River Six Mile Public Boat Landing, makes boating a pleasure on the ICW or Guana River. Palm Valley is also a tight knit neighborhood offering a Palm Valley Community Association. (Newcomers can join with a standard membership of $20.00.) Community events range from the weekly Farmer’s Market to the Annual Palm Valley Light & Boat Parade celebrated each December. Open to boats and docks, participants and spectators alike enjoy this holiday celebration with numerous dock parties, seating and food trucks located at the launch.
